Synopsis
In the summer 2017, I began to compose a series of works entitled "WALLS". I started by walking around randomly in the streets of Oaxaca, Mexico. While wandering / moving around the city I filmed the walls I passed by without looking and separately recorded the sounds of the city. Months later I edited the video-material and created a 25 minute art-video without sound. Out of the field-recordings I composed a radio-art-piece: "Wallside #Oaxaca". It is pure ARS ACUSTICA that does not tell a story nor it is descriptive sound-scape. It follows only musical rules. A slightly electronically treated (e.g. sampled, filtered) saxophone (street musician) and excerpts from orchestral performances in public places are part of the acoustic material along with truck-brakes or creaking door-sounds. This composition is not a sound-walk but a picture, a canvas I painted with the sounds of the streets of Oaxaca, sounds coming from courtyards, around corners, behind walls, street crossings, gardens, markets, buses, etc.. There is obviously no text, and no script needed.
